Right here is where thy side quest comes to an end. Upon a small pedestal inside a carved alcove is yet another statuette of Her Royal Gooeyness Zuggtmoy.(350 pp) Tossed contemptuously at the statues feet is a scroll with 5 spells on it, a wand of illumination, and a bow +1. Guarding the statue are 3 Immature Ropers (AC 3 HD 5 MM pg. 83) Have fun with the kidz...

Welcome to the nursery! Amongst this foul smeling pile of rotting organic material, there are 5-7 small 3" round lumps that look like truffles. These are in fact the larval form of a Roper. Harmless now, but wait a few years....

Nothing here but a tranquil pool. Deep underground and surrounded by weird hostile monsters. 18 Fungus Worms (AC 7 HD 1+2 Reskinned Land Lamprey MMII pg. 80) Those are hanging out on the walls surrounding the pool.

Dungeon23 Room 214 (A Side Quest of Fungus)

This small 20' x 20' alcove carved into the wall here, contains regular mushrooms of various sizes. Wandering about in this mini mushroom garden are 2 Carnivungus Goons, 1 Carnivungus Capo, and 10 Fire Beetles (AC 4 HD 1+2 MM pg. 9).

To those following along, this small bubbling pool of black viscous sludge. Starting small, about 1" high, and getting progressively taller are Carnivungus Goons growing up the sides of the shallow depression. At the rim the Goons finally grow a mouth split and eyes. None of the Goons in the depression have legs yet.

Dungeon23 Room 211 (A Side Quest of Fungus)

Opposite from the Rust Bros there is a small alcove carved into the wall. This serves as a shrine, there are pretty pastel mushrooms surrounding a small platinum statuette of our favorite gooey goddess, Zuggtmoy. It makes you wonder... Why do these folks like mushrooms soooo much?

Dungeon23 Room 209 (A Side Quest of Fungus)

At the second ramp from the top, there is a hole in the wall. A rent if you will... Looking thru the hole PCs will see a steep sided trough filled with a strange blue gas. Strength gas: party has detected it, but must breath it to continue. adds 1-6 points of strength (as strength spell) to all fighters in the party for 1 to 10 hours.

Dungeon23 Room 208 (The Darkened Tradeway)

After dealing with the scotch tape iguanadons, the PCs will turn their attention to the large stone door. Once past the door there is a series of ramps, 60' long ascending 30' each time. Along the wall at the second ramp from the top there is a large hole in the wall. Continuing to the top reveals a wide hallway disappearing into the darkness.

A bit further down the tunnel there is a stair case ascending 20' to a large room with with a cracked slab of pentagonal shaped stone. Around the stone slab sits 3 Gray Oozes (AC 8 HD 3 + 3 MM pg.49). And they're hungry.

Passing within 10' of this steep pile of what appears to be mine tailings. Investigate the supposed mine? Please take note of the bundles of frayed white filaments laying about. Also note the faint scent of decay that emanates from the supposed mine. This due to the very hostile 3 Cave Fishers (AC 4 HD 3 MMII pg. 24) that are currently inhabiting the mine, Good luck with that...

Dungeon23 Room 202 & 202a (The Darkened Tradeway)

Here we have a brief interlude of abject terror. This area is one half of an immense rip in the strata, caused by the same thing that left all the stalagmites. Tucked far back in the rip cave buried under tangled webs, amid the desiccated bundles of webbing that can only be the remains of the meals of 5 Giant Spiders (AC 4 HD 4+4 MM pg. 90) However this is only 1/3 of the nightmare sv. on this side of the cave. Spanning the gorge is a precariously slim stone bridge. And the cherry on the nightmare muffin is that at the heart of the spiders' nest is a Rod of Rulership. This allows the boss spider to exercise dominion over not only the other 4 spiders, but the other nightmares across the cave.

Dungeon23 Room 200 (The Darkened Tradeway)

Back across the tunnel is yet another rip in the wall. Inside this rip 4 Carrion Crawlers (AC 3/7 HD 3+1 MM pg. 13) Inside the nest , dug out by the carrion crawlers is the body of duergar, dragged in here to be food for the larvae. Still on the corpse is a suit of undamaged chain mail, short sword +1, hammer, and steel shield.

Dungeon23 Room 199 (The Darkened Tradeway)

This room is a prime example of Gyaxian dungeon design. Keep in mind I rolled randomly for this...
 
Carved into  he side of the tunnel is a kidney shaped cave. In the far lobe of the kidney is a shallow depression in the floor at the center of which is a small pool about 2 1/2 feet across. Flanking the pool are 10' pit traps. The pool itself is a magic pool. Here is the text from the DMG pg. 172
Will, on a one time only basis, add (1-3) or subtract (4-6) from one characteristic of all who stand within it. 1=Strength, 2=Intelligence, 3=Wisdom, 4=Dexterity, 5=Constitution, 6=Charisma
(add or subtract from 1-3 points, checking for each character as to addition or subtraction, characteristic, and amount)

Dungeon23 Room 196 (The Darkened Tradeway)

Back across the tunnel there is a cave. The cave smells of rot and decay, emanating from a small pool of viscous brownish black liquid. Above the slowly bubbling pool of ick tucked into a mall niche is a statuette of our favorite old moldy Zuggtmoy, the whole thing surrounded by a patch of Yellow Mold (AC 9 HD -- MM pg. 71) The statuette is worth 500pp.
